The website of LGBTQ media outlet PinkNews has been added to the unified register of banned resources. This was discovered by the Parni+ team on Roskomnadzor’s website, which states that access to thepinknews.com is currently restricted.

Such blocks are imposed by Roskomnadzor when the agency claims to have identified so-called “LGBT propaganda” on a website and moves to restrict access for users in Russia.

PinkNews is one of the largest English-language LGBTQ media outlets. The publication covers community life, rights, politics, culture, and news from different countries, and The Guardian has described it as the largest LGBTQ website in the world.

Against this backdrop, pressure on Russian queer media is also continuing. In February, a hearing took place in Oryol over a lawsuit filed by the Oryol regional branch of Russia’s Ministry of Justice seeking to have information published on the Parni+ website declared “prohibited”.

As Parni+ editor-in-chief Evgeny Pisemsky noted, the current actions against the LGBTQ community are not случайные “local excesses”, but a logical continuation of the state’s repressive policy.
